A Bit of Background

We spread peace and prosperity throughout the world by partnering with business owners and young entrepreneurs to create their success story.

We provide Audit Ready, Real TIme financial information and advisory services to build solid foundations, processes and strategies for growth oriented businesses.

We lead by example and are mentoring others in our industry to do the same.  We also support the Sustainable Development Goals and believe a Business should be for Good.

Business for Good

Every time something good happens in our business, we create something great in the world.  We are proud to partner with B1G1 in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals.

From Our Founder

I am just a regular, ordinary overachiever.  I spent the first 10 years of my career in the Marine Corps.  All that time in government accounting taught me:

  • Only the right answer is right.  There’s no “close enough” or “almost” when it comes to people’s money. If you doubt me, try short paying a Marine drill instructor and telling him his paycheck is “close enough”!

  • It doesn’t matter how long it takes to do a job right the first time, it will be less time than it takes to redo a job done wrong.

I also spent 10 years as a small business owner with a retail business.  My take aways from that experience:

  • Owning a business is stressful.

  • If you aren’t growing, you’re dying.

  • Decision making never stops but you can stop second guessing yourself.

Then I spent 10 years in various accounting roles, working for small business owners.  My take aways:

  • Successful business owners hire experts for what they don’t specialize in.

  • They know they have to spend money to make money, but all money spent must be spent smartly.

  • They don’t compete on price.  Know what you are worth and charge it.  Trying to be the cheapest at something never succeeds. Compete on value. Compete on service.

  • Don’t hire relatives or friends that aren’t qualified for the position. Loving someone doesn’t imply a duty to hire and even free help isn’t always helpful.

This collection of life experiences is what brought about the Bullet Proof attitude when I started Bullet Proof Books in 2012.  I’ve worked for companies that have been audited.  Companies that, despite spending ten’s of thousands of dollars on accounting services, were totally unprepared for an audit.

I’ve seen the stress and experienced how stressful owning a business can be.  I’ve seen owners spend recklessly until they are out of money.  I’ve been on both sides of the fence, so to speak, as an owner and as an accounting professional. I’ve now made it my mission to smash the failure statistics for startup businesses.  I want to see you get your business off the ground and reach your goals, however big or small they may be.
